MIET Africa is a not-for-profit organization based in South Africa with a strong presence in the SADC Region (Southern African Development Community). It realizes its purpose of improving the lives of children by contributing to quality teaching and learning. MIET Africa prides itself on being an African NGO and an innovator of education solutions that focus on the challenges faced by children in rural areas. It has pioneered many new models and programmes, and its influence now extends beyond South Africa and into Africa.







Science and Mathematics Enhancement Project: Phongola Education Centre Awards Day

An awards ceremony was held at the Phongola Education Centre for the Science and Mathematics Enhancement Programme on Wednesday, 30 November. Awards and certificates were presented to learners and schools who participated and achieved in the programme, which is being implemented at the education centre.





RHIVA parents grow vegetable gardens

RHIVA (Reducing HIV in Adolescents) is a programme that is being implemented in 14 schools in Vulindlela by MIET Africa and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education. One of its aims is to promote nutritional support to the learners enrolled in the programme.  Therefore, as part of the parenting support component of the programme, MIET Africa partnered with HOPE to provide training to parents and learners on how to establish and maintain vegetable gardens.





Representative Council of Learners learn from the Siyanakekela Project

The Siyanakekela project recently co-hosted a learner capacity building workshop at Ethangeni Full Service School (FSS). The workshop was aimed at Representative Councils of Learners (RCLs)—building their capacity to carry out their role as a school-level supporting structure more effectively.




MIET Africa presents at the ICASA Conference

One of MIET Africa’s senior researchers, Jaime Mchunu, attended the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 4–8 December.  While there, Jaime delivered a poster presentation entitled: Adolescent Sexual Behaviour: How much can we really tell from self-reported behaviour change?
